The Geospatial Multi-Agency
Coordination Group or GeoMAC, is an internet-based mapping application
originally designed for fire managers to access online maps of current
fire locations and perimeters in the conterminous 48 States and Alaska.
Using a standard web browser, fire personnel can view this information
to pinpoint the affected areas. With the growing concern of western
wildland fires in the summer of 2000, this application has also become
available to the public. We hope that you find this important
information both timely and helpful.

Re: GIS and CA Wildfires

I agree that this website was well done. I believe that this type of Web application could serve as a model for disseminating mapping information to the public for a mass evacuation event in West Virginia.

GIS and CA Wildfires

Podcast: California Fire Maps - How Can We Do Better?

Mash-ups
and other Web 2.0 tools took center stage at many California media
outlets this week as they tried to keep up with the latest information
on the fires in that state and serve it to readers. The efforts were
truly spectacular, and one My Maps implementation became a Web favorite
(1.2 million views) as well as a resource for first responders. This
week we look at those efforts and look ahead to what might be done
better in the future. The podcast is 16 minutes long and was recorded
on October 29, 2007.

Go here for the podcasts
