WVAGP Spatial Student Presentation Awards

Attention, students! As part of the 2025 WV GeoCon at Canaan Valley Resort State Park June 2-4, 2025, the West Virginia Association of Geospatial Professionals will be granting Spatial Student Presentation Awards for the top three presentations at the conference. This is an opportunity for West Virginia students to showcase and be acknowledged for excellence in geospatial research.

Eligibility 

The contestant must be enrolled at a two-or-four-year higher education institution in West Virginia and meet the eligibility of a Student Member of WVAGP for the 2024–2025 year, (currently enrolled at least six credit hours, in good standing, at a state-chartered educational institution). The student must provide a presentation on their research or project at the 2025 WVGeoCon to be eligible.

Proof of enrollment and standing must be submitted by March 1, 2025.

Award

The winner(s) of the competition will receive the following:

  1. First Place: $300

  2. Second Place: $200

  3. Third Place: $100

Rules

  1. Student must attend and provide a presentation of a maximum of 20 minutes on their research or project at the 2025 WVGeoCon.

  2. The research or project must focus on an issue affecting West Virginia.

  3. The research or project must illustrate the use of geospatial technology in addressing the issue.

  4. Students must be the sole presenter, presenting their own original work.

  5. Students who wish to be considered for this prize must provide proof their eligibility when submitting their abstract through our form.

  6. Presentation file or materials shall be available to WVAGP for sharing on their website for up to one year after the day of the competition.

  7. The winner(s) are the sole recipient(s) of the awards. The awards are non-transferable and not inclusive to partners, associates, friends, family, or other affiliations. No part of the awards are to be used for any purpose except for the winner(s).
